I read this book "HARRY and the Lady Next Door". When Harry tries to stop the lady next door from singing too loudly, he gets in trouble! Can Harry solve the neighborhood's problem before he's sent to the doghouse?
Harry was a white dog with black spots. He loved all his neighbors, all except one. He did not love the lady next door. The lady next door loved singing, and her voice was high and loud. When she sang, Harry's ears hurt and almost people ears hurt. She sang higher than the peanut whistle, and louder than the siren on the fire engine, and higher than the cats sang. Harry tried everything to make her stop. He and his friends howled under her window, but it did not do any good. She sang higher and louder than ever. One day Harry's family gave a party, and they invited the lady next door. When she started to sing, Harry disturbed her. So that, the family sent Harry out of the room. When Harry pushed the door open the wind in, and it blew the pages of music off the piano. The page blew out the door and into the garden. Harry caught some of the pages, but he did not bring them back, and he ran away with them.
He ran until he came to a quiet spot. In there, Harry saw cows. They mooed very low notes. He had never heard anything so soft and low. He wished the lady next door would sing like the cows. Suddenly, Harry had an idea. He rounded up all the cows, and took them to his house. They came to Harry's house, and they went on mooing. They all mooed soft and low. The cows mooed for a long time, but it did not do any good. The lady next door sang higher and louder than ever. Harry's family called the man who owned the cows. Harry's first try finished to fail.
The next day, he went for a walk. After he had walked for a long time, he heard a wonderful sound. It was low and lovely. Then Harry saw the big horn in the Firemen's Band. The big horn wasb even softer and lower than cows mooing. He wished the lady next door would sing like the big horn. Suddenly, he had an idea. The next time, Harry caught the leader's stick went into the air, and Harry ran in front of the band. Harry succeeded to take the band in front of the lady's house. The big horn player played even softer and lower than before, but it did not do any good. The lady next door sang higher and louder than ever. Harry's second try finished to fail.
A few nights after that, the family took Harry to the park. They were going to hear the Firemen's Band. The family knew that Harry liked the big horn. But, the band didn't come to there. Instead, a singing contest started in there. There were the lady next door in the singing contest. Harry took one look and ran off. He wished the lady next door would sing soft and low like the cows and the big horn. Then he saw the sound came from inside a watering can. Suddenly, Harry had an idea. He took the handle of the can in his mouth, and he ran with it. He got back to the bandstand. When the lady next door was singing, Harry walked quietly up the stairs and put the watering can on the floor behind her. The lady started to sing a very high note. Then two frogs jumped out of the can. The other ladies in the contest shrieked and ran from the stage. But, the lady next door didn't stop singing. She sang higher and louder than ever. She finished her song, and she won the singing contest so the other ladies in the contest had all gone home. She was admired that she was a brave lady, and she won First Prize. It meant she could study music in a far-off country for a long time. Eventually, Harry was the happiest of all. When Harry went to the ship with the family to see her off, he heard that the ship blew its foghorn just as she sang the first note. It was a deep, low, wonderful sound. Harry heard its sound, and thought it was the most beautiful song he had ever heard.
